My 6th Grade Reading List

Well, it's summertime!  So what have I been doing?

Relaxing by the pool?

Vacationing around the world?

Hahahaha! No, I've been lesson planning and making book lists!

This year I am moving back to teaching 6th grade. I have taught 3rd grade for the last two years and before that I taught 6th and 7th grade World History.

At my school 6th grade is part of elementary school and our history curriculum covers the Renaissance period through WWII.  I am beyond excited to be teaching this time period again in a Classical School setting and with a decent amount of time to prep for it!  So, when I make my literature selections, I do so with our history time periods in mind.

The first two books on my list are short, introductory books that really introduce the concepts of being a good friend and hopefully starting the school year out with a strong no-drama, good friendships classroom community.

That poster is SO going up in my classroom! Makes me laugh every. time.

So aside from those two literature selections, the rest go along with my lessons in History.  I'm also planning on incorporating some fun Fibonacci activities in math (Renaissance mathematician) and some Reader's Theater!  I am BEYOND ecstatic to start this year!

 My 6th Grade Book List:

"21 Activities" Books used in 6th Grade, Including:

6th Grade Students Will Choose One of the Following each Quarter for Biographical Study and Quarterly Book reports:

Other:
IEW Modern History-Based Writing Lessons
IEW Fix It Grammar: Mowgli and Shere Khan

What books are you planning on using in the coming school year? Any other books that you have read that pertain to this time period that you'd like to share your success with?

Also, as the summer goes on, I will be posting book studies for the above reading selections, so keep an eye out in my TPT store for those!
